School transport is a safety system, not just a fee head

Parents worry most about the bus. Did my child get on? Where is the bus now? Why is it late? Transport in-charges, meanwhile, juggle route changes, temporary drop requests, drivers' licences and fitness certificates that expire on different dates — usually in a register and a WhatsApp group.

SSMS sets up vehicles (owned or contractor, seats, GPS device), drivers and attendants with licence details, stops with locations and routes with ordered stops and pick-up and drop times. Students and staff are allotted a route and stop for pick-up and drop — which may differ — from a date, and the transport fee follows automatically by zone or slab, pro-rata on change.

Trips, attendance and parent alerts

Each day's trips appear on the attendant's phone. At each stop the attendant marks riders as boarded, dropped or absent, and parents are told: boarded, reached school, dropped. Anything unusual — a child not boarded, or not collected at the stop — goes straight to the transport in-charge. The trip log captures odometer, fuel and incidents.

Live tracking and compliance

GPS devices or the driver's phone send positions to SSMS. The transport office sees a live map, plays back routes, and gets over-speed and route-deviation alerts; parents get a "bus approaching your stop" notice. Vehicle documents (RC, insurance, fitness, permit, PUC, speed governor, CCTV, first-aid and fire extinguisher) and driver documents (licence, police verification, medical, training) carry expiry dates with reminders — and a lapsed document blocks the vehicle or driver from being assigned.
