SSMS imports through a staged process: uploaded → staged → validated → preview → confirmed → imported. Every row is checked — required fields, formats, valid classes and sections — and possible duplicates are flagged. You see a preview of what will happen, confirm, and the import runs as one transaction. Anything that failed comes back in a downloadable error workbook to fix and re-upload.
