A library that runs on barcodes, not registers

Make the library easy to use and easy to account for

School libraries are often locked away behind an accession register and a librarian's memory. Students can't find what is available, overdue books go unchased, and the annual stock check takes a week.

SSMS supports several libraries per school. The catalogue holds titles (ISBN, authors, publisher, subject, classification) and copies with accession numbers and barcodes. Members — students and staff — have category limits on how many books and for how long. Issue, return and renew take seconds with a barcode scanner. Reservations form a queue that moves automatically when a copy returns.

Fines are calculated per day after grace, with a cap, and can be collected at the library or added to the student's fees. Lost and damaged books are charged properly. Stock verification compares scanned copies with the catalogue and lists what is missing. The public OPAC lets students and parents search the catalogue online, without signing in.
